As the design captain of my high school robotics team I took the initiative to design a CAD model of the robot drivetrain.
Each year the team receives a new challenge that their robot must do. While the main mechanisms on the robot change year to year, the drivetrain only gets slight modifications with each new game.
To decrease the time it takes the team to sketch a new model of the drivetrain each year from scratch, I opted to make the model parametric. I did this by linking Autodesk Inventor to a set of parameters on Excel so that the dimensions of the model automatically update according to the spreadsheet.
The adaptability of my model allowed the team to continue using it for several years after my graduation.
